YELLOW!

I wore this to brunch last Sunday (Mother's Day). It was such a beautiful day, I had to bust out this bright yellow dress and kimono. The dress is something I picked up while shopping in the states last weekend and the kimono is a steal from H&M. The shoes I thrifted last winter. I love the chunky heel and they're super comfortable, I couldn't pass them up. This was my first time wearing my treasure chest purse out and it was so much fun to bring around. It's unique and I feel like it makes my outfit extra special.

I've been basking in this amazing weather and getting outside any chance I get. How have you been celebrating this sunshine?

Dress: Axia, JCP, $20. Kimono: H&M, $10. Shoes: Nine West, Value Village, $15. Purse: Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show, $45. Bracelets: Target, $16. Ring: Suzy Shier, $4.

Antique Show Snaps

Last Sunday I spent my afternoon at the Antique Show with my mom. We had a blast sifting through all of the antiques. I always love seeing the furniture, oddities, and jewellery. You just never know what you'll find at the show and you're guaranteed a one-of-a-kind piece. I bought two necklaces and one ring, see below.

I'm so relieved and excited that Spring is finally here! I'm happy to report that I haven't worn my coat two days this week. Feeling the sun on my face truly does lift my mood and makes me feel warm and fuzzy. I'm really looking forward to Summer, you?

All I have of my outfit. Taken by my mom :)

Winter Dressing Circus

Winter is always a difficult time to dress. In trying to keep warm, you have to layer up. You can't just wear a simple outfit. There has to be the base layer, and the base layer has to go with the rest of the layers. And on top of that, you have to wear a big bulky coat and sometimes a hat, scarf, and leather gloves. It really is a challenge trying to make this whole dressing circus work in my favour 7 days a week but this is the season where my many blazers come in handy. Everyday for work I generally wear either a skirt and sometimes pants, paired with either a blouse or t-shirt and topped with some type of blazer. I wear the same coat and almost the same boots everyday and some combination of hat and scarf.

The dressing ordeal is one of the reasons I hate winter. I just feel heavy and cold and hot and wet all at the same time and it's not pretty. While there's not much I can do to sway Canada into warmer weather, I can choose to dress wisely and try to smile through it. If you're not sure what to wear in below digits weather, I'd suggest investing in a few key items:

  • warm coat (mines consignment, check thrift stores!)
  • Doc Martens (the only boot ever)
  • hats (H&M has some cute ones)
  • scarves (thrift shops have the best)
  • leather gloves
  • insulated nylons (Mark's)
  • fleece-lined leggings or pants
Coat: Rikochet Resale $260 Skirt: gifted and thrifted, Sweater: H&M, thrifted, $6 Purse: Valentina, Winners, $26 Boots: Spring, $20 Glasses, Kenzo, clearlycontacts.com , Necklace: gifted

Ottawa Antique Show + Farmer's Market Snaps

If you're blessed enough to have a farmer's market in your city, I urge you to visit! I recently discovered  the farmer's market in Ottawa and I was instantly in love. It's not just fresh, local produce, but also interesting baked goods like macaroons, beer-infused bagels (yep), homemade chill, fudge, a soup stand, and a curry stand. It's a great place to go with friends on a Sunday (it's open until 3). Me and Rosie went last Sunday for lunch before the Ottawa Antique Show. Rosie had a coconut lentil soup and I had a vegetable and chick pea curry with pakoras and chai tea. After lunch, we headed to the Antique Show. It was so much fun, except that I literally wanted everything! I had never really seen that much vintage furniture before and this was rows and rows of real vintage, awesome furniture, bobs, clothes, jewelry, shoes, and artwork. I found a daisy brooch that I absolutely adore. Daisy is one of my nicknames and I'm always drawn to them, especially in fashion. After the show, we went to Ikea and then out to dinner for some sushi. It was an amazing way to end the weekend, I'd say.

Hat: H&M, $7. Coat: Danier, Value Village, $5. Shirt: Great Glebe Garage Sale, $25, Skirt: Winners, $25. Purse: Ragtime, $20. Boots: Derango, Value Village $10. Rings: Glebe Garage Sale $3, Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show, $10.

I love my new daisy brooch! It's so adorable. Picked it up for $10.

"YOU ARE FABULOUS!" were the words blurted out of my mouth the second I saw this woman. She is so beautiful. I love her glasses, make up and style. And, she's thrifty just like me! When I asked her what she bought she said "I got earrings for one dollar and a necklace for four dollars." So happy she let me take her photo.

I came thisclose to purchasing these shoes. Me. Me, who basically only shops in thrift stores or in the sales section. These are to die for. Firstly, they're black and white checkered - so MOD, classy, fun. Secondly, the HEEL, THE HEEL, THE HEEL! So cool. And thirdly they're Dolce & Gabbana. I bet you're wondering what stopped my besides price obviously. Well, they're an 8.5 and I'm an 8. On top of that, they hurt my toes after walking around in them. They will forever be in my dreams <3.

Rock 'n Roll Life

Being a vintage lover and colour addict, I'd often condemned wearing all black. Until I did it.

I think the reason 90's punk revival has been such a huge trend for a couple of years now is because of the way it makes you feel. It was rather out-of-character for me to purchase a spike necklace but once I paired it with my black leather jacket, black dress and leather booties, I couldn't help but feel bad-ass. Especially since I am often referred to as Marilyn Monroe-esque and/or have that vintage/pin-up look, it was refreshing to wear something so out of my norm. Having just dyed my hair a more greyish blonde really enforced the urge to be a bit more dark (fashion-wise, of course.) I double-dog-dare you (yes, I actually said that) to wear a style that you wouldn't normally go for or isn't necessarily expected from you. It's a realllly cool feeling.

The bag is my new obsession. I had been stalking it at Winners for weeks now but simply couldn't fathom paying the $50 for a bag that would fit only my phone and money. And it still wasn't acceptable once it was reduced to $38. I saw it once again a week ago and wasn't even going to check the price tag because I had seen it only a few days prior at $38 and hadn't expected a change. It must've been my extreme want for the bag that compelled me to check the price tag one more time and I'm glad I did. It was now reduced to $26 and I couldn't say no. Italian leather, real pony hair, ORANGE, mod, shapely and perfect for running errands, going out, or shopping.

Psychedelic Easter Winds

easter:
Today I celebrated Easter with my family. As much as we sometimes want to bite each other's heads off and spit them off the balcony (that's normal, right?), I love them and I'm so lucky to have the most hilarious and genuinely caring parents. And while I love my parents and my mom cooked a kick-ass ham, my grandmother was the highlight of my evening. She wore all black (as usual) but this time with a bright orange scarf. I took hundreds of pictures of her and even recorded a few of her stories. Stay tuned for that post!

my outfit:
I wore this to run errands during the day and for dinner. The shirt, coat, belt, and purse are my most recent thrift finds. You may recognize this 'psychedelic' shirt from my latest haul video. I wanted to wear this shirt today firstly because it's AWESOME and secondly to show how you can make a seemingly ridiculous top work in an outfit. Or at least, it works for me (ha!). I adore the colours in this shirt and felt the gold belt and gold buttons went well with the red pants. I also want to mention that this belt completely reminded me of one of my favourite bloggers (and totally inspired me to buy it), she's fabulous and from sunny Spain, Mis Papelicos

It was verrrrrrry windy today.

Would you like some tea?
