Vintage Pink Coat OOTD and Merry Christmas Eve-Eve!
Merry Christmas Eve-Eve!
I wore this last weekend to do a bit of shopping and then to go out for Rosie's birthday. I've been loving this super mild winter weather this year. I get to wear all my lighter, thrifted coats and boots. I'm trying to milk it before the real winter hits. I've been obsessed with these faux leather leggings. I have a hard time finding pants that fit well, mostly due to my booty-waist ratio that doesn't fit the standard size. But leggings. Leggings always fit me well because they just snap to the curves. I also bought them in navy.
Tell me, how are you? I know this is such a busy month for everyone so I do hope you find some relief this week and time to relax. Rest is so important. Remember that you can't pour from an empty cup. You have to take care of yourself before you can take care of others.
I wish you the happiest holidays!

VIDEO: HOW I GET DRESSED
I sometimes wonder how people get dressed. Whenever I see a beautifully composed outfit, I ponder how it all came together. For me, there are some key things that I consider when getting dressed. Things like my mood, the weather, and the days' activities all cross my mind. I think there's also a bit of magic to it, or a je ne sais quoi? if you will. I like to wear at least one thing that is questionable. Something that adds a bit of mystery.
To find out what exactly goes through my mind when getting dressed, watch my video below. And please leave a comment and tell me one thing you consider when getting dressed!

Smiley 50s Housewife
My sister told me I looked like a 50s housewife in this outfit. As much as that can be a very classy look, I can't help but laugh! If you know me, you'd know I'm near opposite to wanting to be a house wife. Women have so many opportunities today than in the 50s when all they could amount to is cooking and cleaning for their husband and children. Not that those experiences aren't profound and life changing too, I just feel so lucky and blessed to be living in a free country with so many golden opportunities and I want to experience as much of that as I can. I just want to live a life true to myself, help others, and keep dreaming big.
This dress was the only thrifted piece of clothing I bought in England last summer. I didn't adore it at first but couldn't leave the country without something thrifted! While packing up my clothes this summer, I came across it and almost gave it away. I just couldn't. The granny inside of me needed it.
It's one of those pieces that doesn't look good on the hanger. You might even mistake it for a table cloth at a quick glance! Once I tried it on again, I remembered that I actually love the fit.
I wore this to meet up with Rosie and grab some bday balloons. I'm now a 24 year old!!! It feels weird to say but I do enjoy aging. I find it classy. Aging means that I've survived another year and I'm grateful to have had so many beautiful experiences. I'm reading Oprah Winfrey's book right now, yes me, I'm reading!! And in her gratitude chapter, she talks about aging and how it's actually such a wonderful thing. I completely agree. So many children and teenagers don't live to see 24 because of illnesses, accidents, and suicide. So who am I to moan and groan that I'm OLD?! I won't.
I've also been a follower of Advanced Style for some time now and that blog has truly changed what aging will look like for me. I WILL be an Advanced Style lady someday and I'm looking forward to it.

VELO VOGUEING IT IN FLORAL
If you know me, you know my deep affinity for bicycles. Riding my bike feels like what I would imagine flying to be like. It's so freeing and fun. If you're reading this you might also get the hint that I'm into fashion. Combine the two and I'm in! When Rosie told me about an upcoming bike-fashion show, I was sold. It's called the Velo Vogue fashion show and was held last weekend in Ottawa. The set up was amazing. There were colourful bike wheels hanging from the ceiling, cool seating areas, and an ice cream truck! There was a really funky vibe going on.

I wore my floral suit which has become an instant summer favourite. Ever since I bought it back in the spring, I knew this would be a go to this season. It's a stretch denim so it's very comfortable and the colour palette has my heart.
The show featured models walking and some riding down the runway with their bikes. I wasn't able to get any good snaps for you but if you're curious you can view more coverage here! The bikes were just too fast for my photog skills.
How was your weekend?

Sugar Shack
Welcome to Spring in Canada. Yes, there's still snow. Yes, it is cold. But! There's fresh maple syrup at this time of year. You heard right! There are these very Canadian looking cabins called Sugar Shacks where they make maple syrup out of the sap from the trees. I snapped a few photos of the trees collecting sap so you can see for yourself. I have to admit I totally thought the trees just leaked maple syrup into the buckets until my sister who spawned this trip explained that the trees create sap and the sap is then used to make maple syrup when boiled and mixed with sugar.
Canadians put maple syrup on pretty much everything. At least that's what TV might tell you. From a true Canadian, I can tell you we sure do love our maple syrup. Most of us just put it on breakfast foods like pancakes, waffles, and bacon (the BEST). I've also seen it used in baking, as a sweetener for coffee or tea, and Starbucks has now taken to the trend and created Maple Macchiatos and other drinks of the sort.
My sister and I happened to go on the day of the Maple Festival and got free brunch. There was live music and activities for kids. There were also a few food trucks (including a poutine truck). This was just an all around very Canadian festival. As we ventured to the Sugar Shack, we stopped for some Maple Taffy (maple syrup on snow), and then bought some of the freshly bottled syrup.
I guess I should say something about my outfit. This jacket was a score at Value Village. It's by Bristol (very expensive Montreal brand), but since it smelled sooooo bad, it was priced at $13. I hand washed it and left it on my balcony for days. Then I left it hanging in my closet for months. And bam! It finally smells like a leather jacket and the smell is bearable enough to wear! Can my fellow thrifters relate?

Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show: Spring Edition!
I'm a freak for anything vintage. Vintage items are different, durable, and charming. I'd way rather shop in a thrift store or vintage store than a mall any day. My eyes never get bored when vintage hunting and I feel like I'm searching for buried treasure, quite literally. This past Sunday was the Ottawa Vintage Clothing Show and my fourth (or fifth?) time at the semi-annual show. While I usually go with friends and end up on my own lost in the vintage abyss, this time I went to the show alone. I arrived with two hours to shop but took my time sifting through each booth, carefully looking out for gems. I can scan a rack pretty quickly and decide if there's anything special worth looking into.
I bought quite a bit this time. I want to properly photograph everything in outfits so you can get a better idea of how to incorporate vintage treasures into an outfit so stay tuned for that post. While I did see some of the same things from the fall show, I noticed some new booths. There was a lot more jewelry booths this year. One such in particular carried jewelry that had been re-purposed. The owner creates new pieces with broken or tattered vintage jewelry. Another new thing I noticed was a rack of vintage tapestries and Indian scarves which I thought was genius and a great addition. I met some really fantastic and wild women too, see below. I love connecting with like-minded vintage lovers and exchanging cards for future collaboration. Check out my snaps from the show:

I Can Feel It In My Bones
The title is a lyric from Metric's "Gimme Sympathy" song. Last week, I traveled to Kingston, Ontario (two hours from Ottawa) with some friends to see a Stars and Metric concert.
When deciding what to wear, I immediately knew I had to wear my new leather fringe jacket. Building on that, I pulled out my brown suede skirt and glittery oxford shoes. The outfit was almost perfect but was missing something: a shirt. Suddenly I heard a knock on my door and I was pleased to see Rosie standing there, ready to hit the road. After telling her that I had no clue what shirt to wear, she simply said: "Wear a leopard print top!"
I was a little hesitant that leopard print was the missing piece to my outfit puzzle (especially since she tells everyone to wear leopard print, regardless if they should) but I tried it anyway. I ended up loving how it looked and I was a bit rattled by how simple my solution was. I suppose sometimes you just need a second brain.
Before the concert, we managed to visit Value Village, meet up with a few other friends and fill up on fajitas and margheritas at Lone Star, all in time for the concert! We sadly didn't have time to visit the new H&M there but we figured having dinner and getting to the concert on time were the top priorities. All this to say I had such a fun mini-road trip!
