Grey hair for summa time

Look at this jacket. Look at it! I found it in the twenty minutes I had to shop the Value Village half-off day sale. And if you've ever been thrift shopping before or know about the 50% off sales, you know that twenty minutes (not to mention the last half our of the sale) is simply not enough time. Yet I was able to find this gorgeous over-sized white leather blazer. I also found the leopard print top and a bunch of other summer shirts. Looking at my outfit, I'd say it's a great example of how thrift finds mixed with modern pieces can make a one-of-a-kind outfit.
I'm loving my grey hair! I've wanted it for so long but didn't have the guts to do it. Until I tried doing it myself and ended up turning my hair blue. To be honest, I actually liked the blue minus the fact that it was totally uneven. My hairdresser fixed it up and I finally have grey hair. I won't keep it forever but I'm definitely having some fun with it for now!

Ri-Ri Attire

As you can probably tell by the title, this is what I wore to see Rihanna in concert last week. This was my second time seeing her and I was blown away yet again. This show was definitely a bigger production and I felt like she had matured a bit from her Loud days. She played all my favourites including Rude Boy, Man Down, Mother Mary, and the classic Umbrella. I was dancing and crying and laughing all at once and I loved every minute of it. 

My favourite outfit of her show. This Givenchy jumpsuit is to die for. It was a good fit for singing her hit "Diamonds", I'd say.

My outfit:  Meet my new mom jeans. Aren't they so cool? They're super comfortable and I love how 80s they look. They can be dressed up or down and go with just about everything. That being said, they will only be making an appearance on weekends and some evenings. I simply adore my new sunnies. I firmly believe that cat-eye is the only shape for me. My fur bag is hated on by just about everyone but I don't care because I love it so much. It's faux fur and I got it for $2 at Value Village.

Spring Time Delight

These pictures were taken last weekend when we had absolutely beautiful weather here in Ottawa. I suppose it was too good to be true- I'm currently staring out my window at Spring's evil cousin, Slush, who surprised us today with some beautiful whitish grey slush that goes great with layers and layers of clothing- the total opposite of my Spring-time delight,  see below (when I believed it was Spring). And while the fake Spring and sunshine lasted for about a week and a half, I'm happy I was able to enjoy it and know that once Slush realizes it's unwanted here, Spring will make a comeback in the biggest way, and Summer will last twice as long! How's that for wishful thinking?
I wore this outfit to run some errands and grab some lunch with my twin sister, Lisa. The grey top and bolo tie are two of my most recent thrift purchases and are my current obsessions. The top reminds me of pajama chic that's been on trend for a while. I adore the paisley print and find it's versatile with my wardrobe. The sequin cardigan was something I picked up in a vintage store while visiting Toronto last May. I fell in love with the colour and had to have it. I was happy to give it some wear last weekend and felt the sunshine gave the sequins justice. My bag and boots are my go-to, everyday pieces of the moment and my trench coat was able to make an appearance thanks to Mr. Sunshine, that handsome devil.

Truth About Houndstooth & Hiatus Triumph

Shopping hiatus triumph: AT LAST. My two-month shopping hiatus has come to an end. It was way harder than I anticipated. The most difficult temptation to fight was the thrift store. I even let myself step foot in a thrift shop a few times when my friends were going and that was HELL. During one such visit I found three amazing items that I still don't believe I'll ever find again. I do know that there are millions of other great finds out there, though. The first week my hiatus ended I must've gone shopping five times. Since then, I'm happy to report, I've slowed down. The hiatus allowed me to really wear my clothes and fall back in love with them. It was exactly what I needed and helped me to appreciate shopping again. Stay tuned for a haul video of what I've bought since! 

The outfit: The truth about houndstooth is that you can pair it with like-minded houndstooth's (sp?) and it will look fabulous. For this work ensemble, I paired my newly thrifted green houndstooth blazer with my orange houndstooth turtle neck and circle printed navy pants. For accessories, I played the muted orange up with a bright orange/clear necklace and orange/silver vintage ring. I paired the outfit with my new black leather purse and booties. My vintage-inspired glasses were a nice touch to the retro look that I aspire to everyday.

Forever Four

Forever Four: 

Forever four stands for my two first cousins, Ashley & Brandy, my sister Lisa and me. We've literally known each other forever and hence why we're forever four. And although they've always lived at least 5 hours away, we've always managed to see each other a few times a year. Our group dynamic was built on a foundation of unconditional love and support. We 'get' each other and we go together like PB & J. They're an amazing support system and since we know each other inside and out, we're able to listen and give advice in the most thorough way. I can always depend on these ladies, to have a fun night or pillow talk,  through the good times and bad. Most of all, we have the most fun together. When you're so close with someone, it doesn't matter what you do because we manage to make anything fun as long as we're together. We're constantly entertained by each other and we feed off of our energy.

This week:

This week was refreshing for me spending time with some of my favourite people as well as SLEEPING IN! It was wonderful- I think I must've slept in till 11/12 everyday. I strongly suggest taking a few days off and spending it with close family and friends, you'll feel like a brand new gal/guy. Taking time to relax is something I've been working on for the past few months and although some would argue, I feel like I'm making progress. I'm learning that some things can wait. In my case, if my room goes a few days uncleaned (I admit it), then so what? I understand cleaning is therapeutic for many (even me) but I'm trying to not be so paranoid about things getting done. Because I'm realizing that life really is about people. When you die, all that's left is the inspiration you had on others and the difference you made while you had the gift of life.

The outfit:

This is an outfit I wore for a casual evening of Starbucks and the movies (we saw Silver Linings Playbook- loved it). My cousin let me borrow her blouse because she knew how "me" it was. I loved it and am thinking of purchasing my own! The velvet skirt was originally bought by my sister but it didn't fit her quite right so she generously gave it to me. This is definitely a casual look for me and I was so comfortable yet still felt a tad quirky. 

Shopping Hiatus Update:

I am SIX days away from being done. AKA I have not purchased any clothing or accessories (minus a pair of work shoes- needed!) in almost two months. I have to say it has been insanely hard. I did not anticipate such intense cravings and urges to shop. The hardest part for me has been not thrift shopping. That is for sure my biggest weakness (that and chocolate). And as hard as it's been, I feel proud of myself. Contributing to accomplishing a goal feels good. I feel like I have more control over my shopping and I've had the opportunity to really know my wardrobe inside and out and to really enjoy the clothes that I am so grateful to have.

Stars & Metric

As I mentioned in my last post, I saw Stars and Metric on November 23. I taped parts of the concert and wanted to share the experience with you. This was my first time seeing Stars and I really enjoyed their show. They had a lot of energy and sounded awesome!

If you've been to a Metric concert before, you already know the show is magical. It's such an experience and they really make it all about the audience. No other band in my opinion really makes you feel as though you are a crucial part of their music. And perhaps for some artists, the audience isn't an important piece to their show. 

Metric evokes such emotion and they truly deliver on stage. They've never ever disappointed me and I've seen them four times.
