New Vintage Additions

If you read my last post on the Vintage Show, you're most likely curious to know what I actually bought at the show. Now that I've had the chance to properly photograph each piece, I'm pleased to show you what I picked up:

60s WHITE SEQUIN JACKET

This is the first thing I found. I'm a sucker for all things sequin and have a growing collection. One thing I was missing was something in white sequins. When I saw this baby, I knew it was mine. It's from the 60s yet very clean and bright. Each sequin is still in place and I love the puffy shoulders.

$35.00

TRUNK CLUTCH

I've been seeing a lot of boxy bags and clutches on the runway and street style for the past couple of years. I had been hesitant to buy one for two reasons. One, I hadn't really seen very many in stores and if I did, they were quite expensive. Two, they aren't very practical. I saw many at the show this year and I just couldn't stop thinking about them. I found this cute trunk one and fell in love. I didn't buy it right away though. I finished my loop around the show and since I couldn't get it out of my head, I decided it was meant to be. I can't wait to wear it out!

$45 (haggled from $60).

GOLD CHAIN

There were a lot more jewellery booths this year. One in particular had rows of vintage gold chains. I immediately knew I wanted one since I had been wanting to make use of my many brooches who don't see daylight enough. I'm planning on attaching a brooch to the middle to make it more unique. And yes, I realize I could find one of these at F21 for $10 but it will never match the quality of these vintage ones.

$25.00

SILVER RING

It's tradition that I buy a ring at the vintage show. I recently developed an allergy to metal on my hands so I can only wear silver or gold and the vintage show is by far the best place to find real silver rings that have bobbles or jewels on them. I found this one at a booth that specialized in turning broken vintage jewellery into new creations.

$15.00

Vintage Clothing Show: What I Wore

Last weekend, one of my most favourite events of the year came to town- the OTTAWA VINTAGE CLOTHING SHOW!

I went with Rosie, Michael and Jessie but pretty much instantly lost them as I tend to do. As I said in my last post, I enter a vintage la-la-land and completely zone out the second I walk in. This year it was held in the same location, at the Convention Centre downtown, but what was different this year was it doubled in size. Ok, maybe that's a slight exaggeration but it seemed much bigger and word must've spread about the show because I had to do squeeze through some of the booths muttered a lot more "whoops, excuse me, sorry, coming at ya from behind, MOOOOOVE!" I obviously didn't say the last two but I definitely thought it. And while it was busier, that also meant MORE STUFF. The dream. I was in absolutely heaven and could cry at the fact the show is only one day, twice a year. I wish it was permanently there! Although I'd go broke pretty quickly.

Besides the shopping, one thing I absolutely adore and look forward to is the people. Everyone is vintage obsessed just like me! And everyone dresses up for the show in their greatest vintage attire. It's not often that I see people on the streets dressed up in vintage clothes, or even very dressed up in general so to be in a room of snazzy, outrageous and retro-dressed people was a great feeling. I also love speaking to the booth owners. They truly love vintage and know their stuff.

I tried on many things, thought over some, and impulsively bought others, hehe. I'm filming a thrift haul video which will include how I would style each piece I bought at the shoe so please stay tuned for that. Head over to my youtube channel to watch previous hall videos!

VIDEO: Fall Thrift Haul

Here's a fall thrift haul video of the latest things I've picked up at the thrift store. Fall has got to be the BEST time to go thrift shopping. They have the best selection at this time and the halloween aisle is my all time favourite - only until the 31st though. Watch the video to see what I bought!

Livin' my life like it's golden

I threw this outfit together for a wedding reception over the weekend. Blazers never fail me and gold always adds some life to any outfit! I've been wearing a lot of black lately and livening it up with colourful accessories.

Who's wedding? Well, me and Rosie kept in touch with our writing teacher from high school and we had the great pleasure of seeing her on one of the most memorable days of her life. It was heart warming to see her in her white gown, surrounded by so much love, looking so happy with her new husband.
blazer: value village $7, skirt: american apparel: $17, clutch: gifted (Rosie's mom), boots: expressions the bay: $20, bangle and ring: value village, $2-18, shirt, necklace and bracelet: inherited from Grandma Kitty Kats (she has the best stuff!)
